House Painters in Springfield, Nebraska

We paint Springfield out of Ashland, twenty road miles west of you — 66 east through South Bend, then 50 north. Nineteenth-century houses in the old core, ranches behind them, and acreages out where the section roads start.

Springfield barely moved for fifty years and then did all its growing at once. There were 400 people here in 1900 and 377 in 1950. By 1980 it was 782, and by 2000 it was 1,450. Highway 50 runs north straight through town, Buffalo Creek and Springfield Creek cut past it, and the county fairgrounds are still on Main Street. What that leaves you is three different kinds of house within a few blocks of each other.

The crew drives out from Ashland. There’s no office here and no Springfield address in our project list yet. What there is: painting since 1981, a second generation of the same family, painters on our own payroll instead of subcontractors, general liability coverage, and a warranty that runs three years on labor and materials.

The old core

Wood lap siding, cut-in trim, porch posts, and coats stacked up since the nineteenth century. The time on those goes into what sits under the finish rather than the finish itself. Those coats also predate the 1978 lead ban, so the bottom layers can contain it — nothing to panic over, just something to know about before the scraping starts.

The fill-in years

The growth came in two pushes, the sixties and the eighties, and the middle of town is what they left behind: ranches and splits. Sixties and seventies houses are likely cedar lap or T1-11; late-eighties and nineties ones, usually hardboard. Different board, different prep, and it’s worth knowing which one you’ve got before anybody quotes it.

Out where the section roads start

An acreage gets no help from the neighbors — no windbreak, no borrowed shade, nothing standing between the house and the open field. Gables run tall out there, which is boom-lift work, and we bring one. Fence runs and deck rails come with the ground; we stain both.

Our work sits at the other end of that drive and looks a good deal like yours. A farm outside Ashland in navy siding. Halls, doors and trim inside a farmhouse. A mercantile interior downtown. Small towns and open ground are most of what we paint. Any quote we write is free, carries no obligation, and rarely takes us more than a business day — 402.521.5800.
