House Painters in La Vista, Nebraska
La Vista was farm ground until 1959. Almost nothing in it predates the plat, which is a strange thing in eastern Nebraska and the one fact that decides what a painter does here.
No one in La Vista has hired us yet. Our work is around Ashland, about twenty-five miles west on I-80, with a few jobs up in Omaha. There’s no office out here; the crew makes the drive.
Everything here was built after 1959
La Vista is the youngest city in Nebraska. A developer laid it out in 1959 on eighty acres of farm ground — three hundred thirty-five houses, families moving in by January 1960. They all carried the same price, which is how the place got tagged House of Nines. The name is Spanish for the view, picked for what you could see across the Big Papio basin.
Everything since has stacked on that start: ranches and split-levels through the ’60s and ’70s, subdivision streets through the ’80s and ’90s, two-story construction out toward I-80 after. There is no pre-war quarter of town to work around.
The work here skews inside
When nothing outside is falling apart, people spend where they look, and on houses this age that’s the kitchen. The oak and stained-maple boxes that came with the ’80s, ’90s and 2000s builds are sound — it’s the color that has aged out. Painting them changes the room without moving a thing.
After that it’s walls, ceilings, doors and trim in houses on their second or third owner, and the accent wall somebody’s been thinking about. Interior work means the same people in your house day after day, so it matters that the painters in it are our own employees, not a sub’s.
Outside, eighty acres divided three hundred thirty-five ways makes for small lots and short ladders; most of the original houses are one story. The two-story streets toward I-80 are where the boom lift comes out. Backyards here run to cedar — decks and fences that go gray under this sun, which is stain work rather than paint.
The closest finished job we can point you at is in Omaha: a cedar fence given a coat of stain, a stucco bungalow’s exterior and trim, a kitchen taken to black. That’s La Vista’s list in everything but the address. Painting out of Ashland since 1981, general liability insurance, and a three-year warranty covering both the materials and the labor. Ask at 402.521.5800 and it arrives in writing, usually inside a business day. Nobody will chase you about it after.
